The Public's Verdict

Turkey

Turkey, officially known as the Republic of Turkey, is a transcontinental country located mainly on the Anatolian Peninsula in Western Asia, with a smaller portion on the Balkan Peninsula in Southeastern Europe. It is bordered by eight countries and is encircled by seas on three sides—the Aegean Sea to the west, the Black Sea to the north, and the Mediterranean Sea to the south. Ankara is the capital, while Istanbul, the nation’s largest city and financial hub, serves as a cultural and historic epicenter.

Turkey has a richly historical land encompassing the ancient history of the Middle East, Southeastern Europe, and Anatolia. Home to several ancient civilizations, it has more Greek ruins than Greece and more Roman archaeological sites than all of Italy. Turkey was the center of the Ottoman Empire, a major power from the 14th until the early 20th century.

Today, Turkey’s economy is classified as emerging and newly industrialized, with a diverse cultural heritage derived from various elements of the Ottoman, Persian, Arab, and Western culture and traditions. The nation holds a strategic position, straddling East and West, and plays a crucial role in regional and global geopolitical affairs.
