Kansas

Kansas is a U.S. state located in the Midwestern region of the country. It is named after the Kansas River, which in turn was named after the Kansa Native Americans who lived along its banks. The state’s capital is Topeka, and its largest city is Wichita. Kansas is often associated with its flat landscapes and agricultural industry, which includes significant production of wheat, corn, and soybeans. Known as the “Sunflower State,” Kansas became the 34th state to join the Union on January 29, 1861. The state played a key role in the American Civil War, and its history includes significant moments during the Civil Rights Movement. Kansas’ geography varies from river valleys and rolling hills to vast prairies, making it emblematic of the American Great Plains.
