Gene Sarazen, born on February 27, 1902, in Harrison, New York, was an American professional golfer who is one of the few to win all four major championships in his career: the Masters, the U.S. Open, The Open Championship, and the PGA Championship. Known for popularizing the modern sand wedge, Sarazen’s most famous shot was the “shot heard ’round the world” – a double eagle at the 1935 Masters, which is one of the most celebrated moments in golf history. His career contributed significantly to the early development of professional golf in America.
