Belarus

Occupying a central location in Eastern Europe, Belarus, officially the Republic of Belarus, is a landlocked nation bordering Russia to the east, Ukraine to the south, Poland to the west, and Lithuania and Latvia to the north. With a population of over 9 million, Belarus boasts a diverse landscape with extensive forests, lakes, and rolling plains.

The country’s long history reflects its position at the crossroads of Europe. Once part of the Kievan Rus’ state and later the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, Belarus was absorbed by the Russian Empire in the 18th century. The Soviet era had a profound impact, shaping its political system, economy, and cultural identity. Following the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991, Belarus gained independence and has since developed as a sovereign state.

Minsk, the capital city, is a modern metropolis with a mix of Soviet-era architecture and contemporary developments. Beyond the capital, Belarus offers a variety of experiences, from exploring historical sites like the medieval castles of Mir and Nesvizh to delving into the rich folk traditions that remain an important part of Belarusian culture.
